The project brief encompassed detailed interior design, as well as the complete reconstruction and adaptation of an attic studio into a functional living space. The existing attic was an open, unified space, with the exception of a separate bathroom. The narrow gallery space was accessible only by extremely steep and impractical stairs. The space, previously used as an art studio, had a ceramic tile floor throughout, only two skylights, and insufficient thermal and waterproofing of the pitched roof.
The primary goal of the project was to transform the roof and the space beneath it into a comfortable and functional living space, compliant with all relevant standards. This involved a complete reconstruction of the roof’s insulation layers, the installation of more skylights for better lighting, as well as the construction of a completely new gallery with safe and practical stairs. Special emphasis was placed on creating a balcony effect on the gallery, achieved by installing two Velux Cabrio roof windows.

The lower level of the attic is designed as an open space that combines the kitchen, living room, and bedroom, with the existing roof structure used as a natural and functional partition. The interior is designed in a minimalist style, with a color palette consisting of white, gray, and natural wood tones, while color accents, such as turquoise, are introduced through carefully selected details and decorative elements. The furniture is a combination of ready-made pieces and custom-made pieces, adapted to the specifics of the space.
The bathroom, as the only separate space, received special treatment. Given the limited space, the design focused on maximum functionality and a sense of spaciousness. Light tiles and sanitary ware visually enlarged the space, while natural wood details added warmth. A mirror across the entire wall further contributed to the illusion of a larger space, and a built-in cistern and shower cabin with a glass partition optimized the use of space.

During the adaptation, special attention was paid to the selection of materials and solutions that contribute to the warmth of the space. Lightweight construction materials, predominantly wood and plasterboard, were used to preserve the structural stability of the building, but also to add charm to the attic. The challenge was to transform a space whose geometry is not ideal for living into a comfortable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing home. Through careful planning and design, the attic was transformed into a pleasant living space, fulfilling all the needs of modern living. The project was successfully completed in 2015.
